Greetings from Seaside, Oregon!
This little town on the North coast is the where the Lady spent her childhood summers.
It has grown substantially & now sports large hotels all along the boardwalk.
The beach here is lovely!
Broad & long with creamy colored sand.
Travel from the Central coast along the Hwy 101 to this area offer some of the most spectacular views in the World.
There are many tiny hamlets along the way, including Tillamook, where the famous cheese comes from, & Cannon Beach.
Cannon Beach is an artist town, with many galleries & shops, the Coaster Theatre & some excellent bakeries & restaurants – all in a compact, easy to get around area.
It is also where you can see Haystack Rock pictured above.
We must thank Oswald West, the 14th Governor, who made sure Oregon was the only mainland state in the union to have free beaches.
Here’s info from Wikipedia:
West established Oregon’s beach highway law, proclaiming the entire Pacific coastline — today’s Highway 101 — to be a public highway, thereby preserving scenery for future generations. The law protecting public access to the high-water line remains in effect on Oregon beaches, which were formally protected by Governor Tom McCall in 1967.
The Oswald West State Park is named in his honor & is just one of the many forest parks along the route.
This place is pure Heaven.
We are having a wonderful time but miss speaking with you all.
Hopefully when we decide on where to settle, we can catch up on all your news.
Then we will truly be Home!
